Is there anyone in France who loves our British neighbours more than I do?
The beauty of the English language, the diverse local accents, the beautiful parks and countryside, the extraordinary cinema from Ken Loach and Michael Winterbottom among others, the loveliness of Scottish people, the modesty of the Welsh, the adorable Irish Brits, the brilliant literature, and of course, the incomparable musicians who made my life so much more beautiful and meaningful...
Britain, you have my heart and you are my second country. Only because Italy's my first ;).
Just kidding.
So, firstly, a warm and massive pile of love to all my British friends and all my lovely non-British friends living in the UK. You are the sunshine of my life.
I'll be back soon, but until then, please, let's make this work together, let's stay strong and work on a better Europe, better systems, a better political world. We need each other, France, Britain, Italy, and the rest of the world, and the values at the core of the European Union have not yet been dusted by corruption and lack of democracy.
By fighting inner corruption and tax evasion, by protecting our health and education systems, we can make the EU a better place. For us, and for others coming our way.
Politics is never definite. It takes constant and ongoing efforts, every day.
Politics is the science of living together, of sharing a place - 'polis' in greek means 'city' as you may be remembered, and of running it together, governing it.
Our politicians simply may have taken too much power and forgot about their accountability. It's our duty to remind them they have be granted only with the privilege of representing us, the people.
