Do careers only make sense looking backwards or forwards? Did you go to art school before you became an internationally acclaimed rock star or best-selling author? Did your career have a plan? Can you have a career without having a job? If there are no more ‘jobs for life’ then are there just ‘careers for today’? What career advice would you give?
Co-director of the Serpentine Gallery, London, Hans-Ulrich Obrist and commissioner of Global Art Forum_7, Shumon Basar host a discussion with artist and novelist Douglas Coupland and artist and former REM lead singer, Michael Stipe.

Where are we right now? Is it Near, Middle or Far? Why does it unnerve the West? Why is it sometimes referred to as “the region” (for lack of a better name)? What are its borders and coordinates exactly? Does it have a centre? Centres? Has fuzziness about its borders brought on confusion about what it actually is? Are we still so dis-orient-ed?
Author of What if Latin America Ruled the World? Oscar Guardiola-Rivera hosts a discussion with artists, Slavs & Tatars, assistant professor of Anthropology and Urban Studies at the Pratt Institute of Art and Design, Brooklyn,Uzma Z. Rizvi, and founder of Barjeel Art Foundation, Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi
